I. thompsonii is not universally accepted as a distinct species. It was considered to be a blue form of I. innominata which is typically yellow. The photos of this iris in the CalPhotos collection are catagloged as I. innominata.
I. thompsonii is found only in the Siskiyou Mountains of Coos and Curry Counties of Oregon and Del Norte County of California.
